Ok so this long, sorry in advance! I'm not sure if I'm looking advice or just ranting lol!
I have dcb (2 tomorrow) who started with me in Oct. He was great about coming here. He was supposed to be temporary but because he seemed to like it here, mom asked if he could be permanent. I had one FT spot I was looking to fill so I said sure.

Everything going pretty good, in December he started fussing a little when getting dropped off. Not surprising since he was here 7:30am-5:30 pm.

Christmas break he was off for 2 weeks(1 week was out of town without his parents), then another week in January. So needless to say I was expecting some miserable behaviour when he came back.

But it's been horrible! Mom stands at the door for 10-15 mins trying to get him to go off on his own. He'll start to, and as soon as she stands, he runs back screaming. Eventually it gets to the point where she has to go or she'll be late for work, so she hands him off to me. And he throws himself on the ground and will cry for 30 mins.

Well Monday I had enough. I remembered the Bye Bye Outside technique! I can't believe I hadn't thought of it before. So Monday night at pick up, told mom we would try it. Tuesday AM I kept the door locked (so she wouldn't walk in-just in case she forgot) I opened the door, asked her if she gave him his hugs and kisses, she said yes, I said thanks! Grabbed his bag and him (he made a grab for her but I caught him) and got him undressed. He cried half heartedly for 10 mins then went and played. Told her how well it went when she picked up. Mentioned how normally he cries and throws tantrums after she leaves (I'm not sure if I had told her this before) and this time was much better

She never showed up today! No call or text! I'm wondering if she regrets bringing him here, or its a coincidence and he's sick I know she doesn't like him crying at drop offs and thats one of the reasons she left previous provider.

That's great that it worked!

Hopefully he is sick but if she left a previous provider because of the crying at drop off, I would think that the provider tried to do something about it that she didn't like.

Some parents love the drop off drama.

Have you tried to call her?

I hope you charge her for not calling and second it may be a just a fluke too. I have kids at that age that do the same thing, they cry and then they are fine.

Drop off drama in children (not babies) drives me batty. Good for you!

I had a child that would slap, hit, pinch, disobey, etc. (the list really did go on and on) and Mom would do nothing because it wasn't happening to her. I told her if it happened again she would be picking up and dropping off outside. She was ticked and withdrew not too long after that. Now, she is begging to come back.
He was 2.5 when it began, and left when he was 3. Nip it in the bud now, if you can, or it will escalate!

Parents get charged if they don't give me an hours notice.

I'm wondering if he was scheduled to be off today now. This is why I ask for written notice of days off, I can't keep track of verbal requests

I just sent her a text, but she's not very good at responding most times

I had another child get sick yesterday, low grade fever all day,(99 F) then threw up as she was leaving. Parents actually thought she still may be fine to come today LOL! I said no, she'd be better off at home tomorrow.

I'm hoping this dcb isn't coming today. It would be a nice break! I need it right now!

FINALLY got a txt back. She says ''So sorry, was crazy here this morning. He was up most of the night so I left him home for the morning and his dad may bring him after but I haven't called home yet today"
REALLY? So you let him sleep all morning and what, going to bring him here in time for nap and he won't sleep? He'll be my only kid for 1.5hrs after after 4.
Just wow! Obliviously dad took the day off work, now they want to bring him? Whats the point?
I just don't know what to tell her as I don't have any official rules about being here by a certain time. I don't know if he was coughing all night or if he just wouldn't sleep.

I would definitely have to come up with something and let them know asap before they just show up and you're stuck.
Let mom know that since dad is home and it would disrupt your schedule with the other kids if he came that late, that it may be best to keep him home the rest of the day.

Can you let her know, "Sorry, but due to the needs of lunch and nap, I can't have drop-offs between X and X, but DCD can bring after nap time"? Hopefully that would be enough encouragement for DCD to just keep him Good luck!
