I am soooo embarrassed....and NO this has never happened to me before!!
A couple weeks ago I got an invitation to a bday for the older sister of a DCG I watch. Our girls go to elementary together. My daughter was so excited and I said we would be there.
WELL....this afternoon it dawned on me that her bday was on last saturday
I am so EMBARRASSED!! I don't even know what to say!!
I never did put an alert on my phone....even though I had intended to. Its like it just totally left my brain and I got the invite.
What should I say, I feel horrible.

Tell the parent what you've said here, apologize profusely & bear a gift. 
You coukd always offer a sleepover or a playdate as well of the girls are friends.

I can relate...I completely forgot to go to my son's BEST friend's bday party. We were running errands and came home and he looked at the invitation on the fridge and said "mommy what day is *** bday party?" I felt so terrible. I even RSVP'd. I couldn't believe I let that happen. It was going to be the first time I met the kid's parents and I was excited to meet them so we could get the kids together outside of school. It worked out fine though and we get the kids together all the time now.
