Daycare and Taxes>Scanning receipts Question
Unregistered 03:01 PM 01-16-2013
I am so tired of saving EVERY bit of paper! Statements, contracts, receipts...

I have seen these things to scan the receipts and then put them on to a computer or disk.

Anyone do this and if so, what do you use? Is it easy?? I a not computer savvy at all, but want to get more organized and get rid of the paper mess!

I don't have one (Yet)...but my dc friend does. The neat receipt...she has the small one I plan to get the big one.

I have seen her put it to work...it works great. However, I think you are still required to keep paper records per-the irs.

Tom, can you confirm? Do we still need to keep paper receipts or can we just save it all on a disk?

If you scan your receipts into your computer, you are not required to save the paper copies. However, if you do this you need to make sure you save your computer records. I'd recommend backing up your files regularly on a flash drive. After filing your taxes, I'd make a flash drive copy of everything and put the flash drive in a safe deposit box.
