I have a DCB who eats and eats and eats. I serve everyone the same amount and then have seconds available if they want extra. He ALWAYS asks for seconds, then asks for more and more. He's the oldest, so I always give him bigger portions anyways. What are your rules on seconds (or more)? Do you let them eat and eat until they are full? Or do you stick to normal portions? (He always eats in the car on the way here, he has no problem finishing any meal, he is not neglected or anything at home.)

Is he overeating? or eating normal portions?

If he was overeating, I would give him a BIG cup of water before all meals, I would slowly hand out the components, veggies first, and after seconds servings of grain, I offer the remainder of the veggies to the kids 'still hungry'.

Otherwise, seconds is enough.

I offer seconds ONLY if they've eaten ALL of their first servings and if I have enough to give seconds.

I do not offer anything beyond seconds.

Over eating is a huge issue in this country and I won't contribute.

I only offer seconds on veggies or the main component (if we're having an entree salad- it's that, Lasagna- it's that).
No extra bread or fruit.
And only if they've eaten at least 90% of what's on their plate to begin with.

I'd also be giving him more water as well!
