Then I realized that it would not be very concientious of me ! What was I thinking?
So I asked my daughter to look at a more modern version.
Three blind mice; the PC version

Three partially sighted mice,
three partially sighted mice;
see how they ambulate at a less than optimal pace
on account of their vision impairment.
See how they ambulate at a less than optimal pace
on account of their vision impairment.
They all ran after the farmer's matrimonally annexed life partner,
who allegedly assaulted them
causing non-fatal dismemberment
of a rearward appendage
with a large-bladed kitchen implement.
Did you ever see
(without wishing to dicriminate against, marginalise or disrespect those unable to do so)
such a thing in your life
as three partially sighted mice?
Too bad it would be impossible to sing! I guess I will pick another song!

I'll file this under Politically Correct.

yeah, I am taking an inclusion class, and it should be "3 mice with visual impairments" ....."people first" language means person...then description of exceptionality.

A couple years ago a teacher in some child activity class tried to change Rock A Bye Baby to a more PC version. I believe she'd heard the newer version somewhere but I'm not sure. It didn't work but I did like the newer version, not as a replacement to the original but because it was sweet
Rock a bye baby
In the treetop
When the wind blows
The cradle will rock
See all the stars
Way up in the sky
Imagine beyond them
Baby, you'll fly.

At our library's story hour, instead of "she cut of their tails with a carving knife", they sing "they ran to the left and they ran to the right". Of course, I'm always the one singing the old version, and I feel like a monster because I can't ever remember the feel-good version!
Rock-a-bye Baby has new words too - something about "and then I can cuddle my baby so small", which I always forget too. I'm sure my daughter will be scarred for life.

That is sweet and I agree...use it as a supplement not a replacement. Very cute!

I pulled out an old cassette of kids songs (old, like at least 20 years old) and it has 10 Little Indians and something else that isn't pc. I've been playing it because the little ones were too small to understand. They are starting to parrot words now, so I've had to retire it.
