Default Online Trainings

Anyone know of sites to take inexpensive online trainings? I am really not making any money as yet, but would like to do some more trainings without driving forever to get to them!

Not all that inexpensive but it's worth it if I don't have to drive 30+ minutes to get to a class. I have used care courses .

Sorry to hijack but if I take the care courses, those are what I would need to take for becoming licensed?

They do count as trainings but are a little bit on the pricey side but then, you can deduct the cost at tax time. I've never taken an online course but would like to 'get my feet wet'. Some of them sound very interesting and I've known people who whip right through the course, not taking nearly as long as it says it will. One of my peers got her CDA that way; she said she couldn't have gotten all her required trainings if not for that.

childcare lounge has some pretty good trainings that are fairly inexpensive. There is a list on her website for the states that accept their trainings for licensing. Even if they don't count for licensing they are really good for gaining knowledge.

Eager to Learn is also a great source of online training. Most of theirs are longer in length and way more in depth. They include weekly online live chats and message board discussions so you get the added bonus of learning with others who are in the same field and in the trenches with you plus the instructors are also either in the trenches or usually have been in some capacity.

Since I am legally unlicensed, I don't have to do trainings. I choose to because I believe that more knowledge helps more than it hurts. Of course I want to do trainings that will help me in areas I feel lacking. Thanks for all the great info!

Try this site: http://extensiononline.tamu.edu/courses/child_care.php

I think somebody once posted a link to Penn State that may have had some free courses, too, but heck if I can figure out how to search for it

Forgot to add - the tamu.edu page has lots of classes that are free to take, but you'd have to pay for a certificate if you wanted it for some reason. The cost for the certificates is still reasonable though.

There are quite a few of these that are completely free--even the certificate.

Care courses classes are accepted for required training in many states ( it list which are accepted on their site ) . If you are taking classes for required hours to be licensed then be sure to check if your state recognizes the classes & company you are taking the classes from .

It would stink to pay for and take the time to complete the training to find out later it is not accepted.

When I was looking a while back MD did not accept / recognize many of the free online courses.

Do they count towards trainings for you? I'd have to double check with my own state licensing but was curious.
Eta: I just checked them out and they're all listed at 2:00, are they usually weekdays?
